Orchha, Madhya Pradesh
Orchha, a medieval town on the banks of the Betwa River, is one of India's most undiscovered heritage gems. The Orchha Fort complex contains the magnificent Jehangir Mahal (a 17-domed palace built to honour Mughal Emperor Jehangir), Ram Raja Temple (the only temple where Ram is worshipped as a king), and the Chaturbhuj Temple tower. The riverside cenotaphs (chhatris) of the Orchha kings standing in the Betwa River are among Central India's most photogenic sights.
