Dawki, Meghalaya
The Umngot River at Dawki is famous for being India's (and among the world's) clearest rivers. The water is so crystal-clear and turquoise that boats appear to be floating in mid-air above the visible river bed. The surrounding Khasi Hills, bamboo groves, and the international border with Bangladesh 100m away add to the unique atmosphere. The river is at its most transparent in winter when flow is low.
96 km from Shillong (3 hours by road). Regular buses and shared taxis from Shillong.
